Guest Driven Experiences We Love To See At Weddings
Moving into the 2026 and 2027 wedding season we are seeing a huge shift in weddings from just throwing a big party with all your friends and family to more thoughtful and curated experiences that guests truly get to enjoy. A huge factor in this change is also smaller guest counts and micro weddings. Couples are choosing to keep the guest list small so they can spend their budget on fun events and memories for their guests to remember for a lifetime. We’ve decided to highlight a few of our favorite guest driven experiences at weddings here in hopes to give others ideas and a little push to do the fun thing for your favorite people!
Wedding Weekends
Gone are the days of just showing up for a few hours on a wedding day to get 5 minutes talking to the happy couple and only a short amount of time to catch up with old friends and family. We are seeing the shift from single day events to entire weekend celebrations. Couples are opting for smaller guest counts and putting their energy towards welcome parties, wedding days, and morning after brunches so they can really maximize their time with their favorite people.
Some examples of wedding weekends we’ve worked on in the past have been low key and laid back welcome parties the night before the wedding. Catering in your favorite tacos and getting time to mingle and say hi to everyone who just traveled in to celebrate you and your spouse. Post wedding day we highly recommend a laid back day on the lake, soaking in the sun and drinking lots of electrolytes to keep the hangover at bay. The key for a post wedding day hangout with your friends and family is to take the pressure of extravagance off the table and just tell a million stories from the day before. The couple who was so caught up in their special day probably missed most of it and would love to hear all the juicy behind the scenes they didn’t get to witness.

Games During the Reception
We’ve all been there before, you’re invited to a wedding where you want to celebrate your friends getting married but you don’t really know anyone else at your table for dinner. It can feel awkward once you get past the questions of how you all know the couple. More and more we are starting to see couples incorporate games and competitions into their receptions, more specifically, their tables. “Table Captains” have become a popular and fun way to keep your guests entertained and bring some competitive spirit to keep them engaged! These roles are usually give to a guest at each table who is known to keep the energy high and can motivate a group. They are usually given fun challenges to lead their group through during the night so they can earn points and win prizes. Some fun prompts can be….get a selfie with the whole table, make sure no one has an empty drink all night, teach everyone your favorite dance move, and take a shot with the entire group of table captains. No matter what tasks you chose, picking someone who will bring the party for their table is key to a fun reception for all!

Audio Guestbook
We still love the tradition of a signed guest book, and almost always still recommend our couples having one out for people to sign. A step to the next level is definitely an audio guest book though and we’ve seen this becoming more and more common. Audio guest books are such a fun way to remember your wedding day in a different sense than just seeing photos and watching your edited video. We think having peoples voice saved for you to listen to over and over again is truly something priceless. Plus it’s fun to see the progression of your friends and family throughout the evening, we highly encourage guests to come back multiple times to leave different notes and stories as the night progresses.

Lounge Areas
Having a comfortable space for guests to hangout and catch up has become a great addition to any wedding. Stiff folding chairs and standing room only cocktail tables aren’t cutting it, especially if you have older guests. Lounge sets are great to add some warmth and style to your reception space. You can show off your individual style with fun colors and pops of florals on end tables, while giving guests a soft place to land when their feet start to hurt during the dance party.

DJ Your Own Wedding!
If the groom tells you he wants to DJ a set for an hour during the reception, who are we to say no? Such a fun way to incorporate a very important part of your life and celebrate it with all your loved ones!
